Compare commute departure times against an arrival target
Set up a commute window, compare estimated drive times and choose a reminder without mistaking forecasts for guarantees.
Editorial review:
Set the route and useful window
Save the route from home to work or work to home, then choose the days and range of departure times you are willing to consider. If arriving by a particular time matters, set an arrival target. Keep the window realistic: a useful comparison needs options you could actually take.
Lanelark compares Apple Maps driving estimates across future departure samples. It can prefer an earlier option close to the fastest estimate and honor an arrival target when that is feasible. The returned time is a prediction from the map service, not a promise about traffic when you leave.
Compare the whole choice
Read the departure, estimated drive time and estimated arrival together. If the earliest option misses your target by a few minutes but a later option meets it, compare the tradeoff and select the departure that works for your day. The fastest estimate may not be the most practical choice if you need to park, walk or prepare before the appointment.
For example, suppose the app shows 7:20 as the shortest drive, while 7:35 has a slightly longer estimate and still reaches your 8:30 target. Pick based on your actual arrival needs and leave room for conditions the estimate cannot see.
Choose one alert and check its behavior
Select a departure to make it the next reminder, or skip the next commute if the trip is cancelled. Browsing later choices does not change the automatic weekday plan. Optional iOS 26 alarms are scheduled on the phone after permission; older supported versions use commute notifications.
Check notification or alarm permission on the device and keep the route current. If the app uses optional foreground location to choose a direction near home or work, the current coordinates go directly to Apple Maps for the estimate; they are not stored or sent to Lanelark's backend, according to the product source.
Know when to recheck
Refresh the choice when you change the route or schedule, and use Apple Maps directly if you need current turn-by-turn directions. Traffic failures, changed conditions or notification settings can change what you see or whether you receive an alert. Predictions and delivery times are not guaranteed.
A commute estimate is a planning aid, not a guarantee of arrival. Keep a human buffer for parking, weather, road closures and other parts of the trip outside the drive-time estimate.
